Yorkshire Terriers are not the best mothers many times. I found this out when I bred my Yorkie and she gave birth to four puppies. I was not at home at the time and only one of the puppies lived. This was heartbreaking for me but I was obvious to keep the living puppy. My Yorkshire terrier did not want to nurse her possess baby. I had to have her down and force her to nurse. She would even step on the baby to rep away from her. After about a week she became passe to it and did not fight me anymore.
The puppy is now nine weeks ago and doing very well. The jam now is to wean her completely away from the mother. I am keeping the puppy so I have to deal with this announce.
The mother and puppy sleep together. I feed the puppy first thing in the morning so that she is not hungry. I separate her from the mother and give her a shrimp amount of puppy formula milk and some canned dog food. She is then so stout that she goes to sleep for an hour or two. I divulge this process every three to four hours. The result is that she rarely tries to nurse from the mother because she is honest not hungry and the food I give her is more satisfying.
Within a week or two I will separate the puppy from the mother all of the time. They will be able to play together and socialize, but they will not be alone together for any period of time. Soon after that the mother’s milk will dry up and I will have a Yorkshire terrier puppy that is weaned and self-sufficient. That is quite a feat with a Yorkie.
